Is Your Body Your Enemy?
Do you have chronic pain? Chronic illness? A traumatic event that blew you out of the water?
In other words, did something happen in your life that caused you to LEAVE your body and – come to think of it – you never went back?
Do you have so much NOISE in your body that you take refuge in your mind and in doing, and avoid your body at all costs?
Well, here’s the rub…life is a lot better when… you can actually inhabit your body. When you can be PRESENT IN your body. Life is more fun. More satisfying. More ALIVE.
Here’s one way to discover whether you and your body are buds. Friends rather than enemies. Here’s something you can try in under a minute.
Let’s call it LOVING TOUCH: Read first, Then do.
- Close your eyes.
- Take a moment to settle yourself in whatever way that you choose.
- Tell your busy mind that you’re going to give some attention to your body. Ask it to take a time out.
- Keeping your eyes closed, take one hand and gently stroke your other hand three times, slowly…mindfully. (that means, paying attention in the moment without judgment) You can stroke the back of your hand or the palm or both!
- Notice what happens especially in your body. Here’s one thing to look for…Does your body breathe a sigh of relief?
Did it feel good too? Feeling good, feeling pleasure gets a bad rap. Tune in next time for more on that.
