Eve’s Blog: Permission to do things YOUR way, even when it’s not what the experts say.

Happy New Year Everyone! I’m excited to launch my new Voice Blog. The focus is on Overcoming Trauma through Voice: Your Body holds the key to set you free. That could be a rap song…

(beat box please)

Your body holds the key

To set you free

Cause it’s high time to be fully you and fully me.

Hey, Hey, can’t you see?

The possibili-ty

Of living in a world full of creativi-ty?

(Ok. OK. I’m getting side-tracked. Sorry! That never happens.)

Here’s a brief outline of what’s to come.

Wait a minute… STOP THE ACTION. An outline? Do we have to? I SUCK at outlines!

Yes, we have to write an outline. We need to plan out a series of blog posts for the next few months or better yet, for ALL of 2015. That’s what the experts say to do. That’s why we took the 30 day free online class!

HOLD ON. Can we slow down for a moment? I have to check in…

Check in?

Yes. Check in…with my body. I need to see what happens inside my body when I say: “It’s time to write an outline”.

Must we? Come on! We’re NEVER EVER going to launch this blog.

(closing my eyes – turning inside) I notice that everything is very still. Tight. My breath is shallow. My left side is held. I feel small. I hear a voice that tells me that I have to do it a certain way to get it right, and I don’t really know how to do that. In fact, I already told you, I suck at that! I’m frozen. It seems like I have no ideas and nothing to say.

What if we skip the outline part for now?

The breath floods in. I’m filled with relief. My sense of humor returns. Now, I have LOTS of ideas! Only, they do NOT appear to be lining up like ducks in a row, (proper outline style) they’re popping around like popcorn (lunatic style).

TAKE 2: What am I excited to share with you over the coming weeks in my blog?

(Here it is – Popcorn Style)

Coming Attractions…

The Creative Process rocks! I go from feeling frozen to feeling inspired and bubbling over with things to share with you.

Learn how to integrate more creativity into your daily life, as a way to be healthy, happy, whole and resourced.

Attention: These daring acts of creativity may not lead to fame.

Improvisation is a WAY OUT of your living hell. Let me help you to build your curiosity, humor and compassion for yourself and your voice.

We all have a unique way of doing, being and living. What’s yours?

Getting it Right is not all that it’s cracked up to be. Do you know that feeling of being squeeeeeezed into a tight little box in order to satisfy some external expectation?

It’s time to break out of the box! I’ve got lots of tools to help you break out. Stay tuned.

Well, that was a lot more fun FOR ME than writing an outline. (I know you linear, hyper-organized types do it differently. And that’s A-OK!)

Here’s a wee bit about me. I am a teacher of the non-verbal and often non-linear realms, from navigating the internal landscape of sensations and the impact of feelings on the body, to improvising in sound and movement and song.

So, when you’re getting stuck, try giving yourself permission to do it your way, or find a new way. If it feels good, do it! (at least within reason.)
